Topsy Turvy Cake

I've been asked to replicate this cake.

This is the 1st time for me to make a topsy turvy cake. So far the cakes have been baked, leveled, and are chilling in the fridge to be iced tomorrow.
I always hate transporting cakes, but this one is going to cause me tons of anxiety. I sure hope my dowels do their jobs. I'm off now to color fondant *yuck*. I'll post pics as I progress...

Oh girl! You are SO inspiring me to start doing better cakes! I can bake them....not so great at frosting and have never tried fondant. How did you get started? Trial and error or have you ever taken a class?

Most of everything I got from this great site. www.cakecentral.com. I did take a class at Michael's, but I knew most everything, so it didn't really do me a whole lot of good. And I only use fondant for decorations, I refuse to cover a cake in it. Did it once, swore I'd never do it again!!
